Fire Safety Policy

The director has the position of fire safety officer of the club and it is their responsibility for the safety of the children in their care. If for any reason they are not present another staff member will be given the role of site fire safety officer however the overal responsibility will remain with the director. The director will ensure the relevant information is passed on to this staff member.

A risk assessment will be prepared for each venue with a section regarding fire safety. This will be reviewed and improved when necessary.

Any potential risks highlighted in the risk assessment will be discussed with relevant staff as a point of potential concern to ensure they are appropriately ready should the unlikely outcome occur. All staff will be made aware of the fire procedure for the club.

A sufficient plan is prepared with staff to better understand their roles.

Any concerns with the venue's current procedures or equipment will be raised with the relevant people from that organisation.

Children at the club to be made aware of the fire procedure (listed below).

If the fire alarm rings, the coach will shout freeze and the activity will stop. All children will listen to the coach and follow the instructions.

In most cases, children will sit in the designated snack area with their bags, sit with their coach as the coach does a headcount and calls the register.

If this area is not appropriate, the coach will lead the children to a safer area and their bags will be left behind.

The group will remain together in the safe area (which is also the fire assembly point for the school) and will wait for information from the school caretaker that there is no risk and the club will then continue.

If there is a fire, the children will remain in the safe area or be led to an even safer area.

In this instance, the children's parents will be contacted to collect their child from the club and all children will remain with the coach in the safe area until they have all been collected. If this area is different from the usual pickup location, parents will be informed of how and where to collect their children from.
